No More Bush (Street)!

I was walking on this beautiful day through San Francisco. The air was crisp with excitement and hope for change in America, as our 44th President, Barack Obama, was sworn into office. As I was walking up Fillmore on this wonderful inauguration day, I was greeted with many gleaming smiles. I got to the intersection at Bush and Fillmore and saw some great street art. 

Someone took the street signs down bush street and changed them to "Obama". It was so great to see! A Japanese man came up to me and told me he wanted to see how far it went. He walked down 9 blocks and realized the entire street had been changed. Someone else told me the signs were changed all the way downtown to Battery. I snapped this shot with my iPhone. 

Closer to Goapele

The Fillmore Heritage Center celebration came alive with jazz and the locals of Western Addition. The concert featured Vinyl, Kim Nalley, Michael Auberg Group featuring Goapele, and Booker T. Jones.



The afternoon was wonderful. Oakland girl, Goapele was impeccable, her sleek, classic look, as flawless as her voice. She wore a form fitting grey dress that eluded a a vintage feel, but had a very modern assymmetrical hem at the knee. The dress was finished with a high-waisted belt. Her hair was parted down the middle and braided tight on each side. Her accessories appeared to be vintage and her heels were very cute. Her make-up was simple and her beauty radiated through the crowd.


Her performance was magical. The Michael Auberg Ensemble provided the instrumentation - a bass player, trumpeter, saxophonist, and organist. The rhythm was kept (and taken beyond) by an amazing drummer.

Streets of San Francisco

Here is a stencil on a board. I pass by on Fillmore on my way to the market.

Here is a stencil I saw on the side of a building in the Mission. Simply says, "Gentrification Even Better Than Cocaine"

I passed this Obey wheat paste on Market. I think it was done last month when Shepard Fairey was in town for an exhibit. I saw a wall near the gallery that was killer. I'll try and get a photo.

Feel More at the Fillmore

Fillmore Center Celebration Concert this weekend! It's FREE! Come out and see some great jazz, including Booker T. Jones and Goapele.

Santogold at the Fillmore!

Santogold (pictured) rocked the Fillmore in San Francisco last night. She brought the house down and people up off their feet! An amazing performance, full of energy, passion and vocal power. Not to mention the trick styling. She was in bright yellow pants with high rise waist, pantent leather crop jacket studded with an "S" on the back. She thru her sunglasses (which reminded me of Oakley blades) off after the first few songs. Her two dancers added a dash of spice here and there with their asymmetrical moves that were balanced by their identical looks and minimalist appearance on stage.

She brought Low vs. Diamond, Alice Smith (pictured), and Mates of State. Mates of State were great... like Euro Minnie Mouse seduces a mechanic who is a drummer in a band at night. But the most powerful performance of the three openers was Alice Smith. She is an amazing talent. Her performance took me to another place, I was hypnotized by her presence and expression in her voice. She is one to watch and definitely my new favorite.
