Taking it back to the old school...
My friend from back in the day at Art Center posted this photo this week. We were neighbors during college in Pasadena. He's wearing one of the first shirts I ever made for Gig Design. It has a little devil on it.

Gigspot Logo Explained

This is my symbol for Gigspot. Some people call it a logo, but I prefer looking at it as my "chop". It has been my mark for over a decade. I have this symbol tattooed on my left forearm. I am always asked about my mark. So here is the story.
For several years, the deer was my spirit guide. Thus, the deer head. The antlers grow from the head to form the letter "G". The "G" is for "Gigspot" as well as my last name, "Garcia". The structure of the "G" is modeled after a labyrinth. The story here is about finding my way into my head. Or out of it.

Human Motion Lab - Branding

Gigspot has just completed the branding for Human Motion Lab / Muscle Activate. Human Motion Lab is a space for integrated fitness, training and body work located in the Mission district of San Francisco. Matt Simpson-Weber is one of few people certified in Muscle Activation Techniques (M.A.T.) - which is an amazing technique that restores the body's movements and range of motion. It is amazing and I highly recommend giving it a try. Apparently so does Oprah, as it was in her magazine last month.
You should also check out the Vibration Training. This is really fun and makes your body feel great. He has a vibration platform which he guides you through work outs on. The platform vibrates at an intense speed and gives you a different type of resistance in your workouts. Matt does it all. He does it all with style. His space is open, clean and relaxing. He has these great lights that he can customize to your favorite colors for your workout! I love purple!

Bell South "Halftown"
I just did the end titles for the director's cut of Bruce Dowad's, Bell South "Halftown" commercial. I came up with a typographic solution to mimic the theme of the narrative of the spot.

Weems Collection

My friend, Michael Weems, opened his new gallery on Palm Canyon in Palm Springs this week. His gallery features his scuplture and tabletop design. His collection consists of metal pieces that have been reclaimed from a "desert metal graveyard". There is an interesting juxtapostion of the smooth powder-coated texture and rigidity of the metal as material and the organic forms it takes when mutulated and distressed. The pieces are powdered coated in brilliant hues like fire engine red and orange, as well as, shimmering metallics of silver, gold and bronze.
My favorite are the Osaka Platters (pictured above in white) and Pompeii Bowls of his works. The belt buckles are very cool too - they look as if your belt buckle was molten metal (pictured at top).
Check out the Michael Weems Collection website designed by Gigspot.

Lexus "H"
I just finished working on lettering the "H" at the beginning of this Lexus commercial. The spot is for the new Lexus Hybrid and this beautiful piece was directed by Bruce Dowad.
