Cardboard Hat

IMG_1858, originally uploaded by larimieg.

I love my hats. My newest is from HUF SF. But, I would totally rock this Cardboard Hat if I could! I was at Fivepoints Arthouse last night and saw this on Jason's wall and had to take a pic of it. Come to find out it was actually one of Jason's cardboard sculptures. Can't wait to see his other works soon!

Social Studio this Wednesday!

While at Pecha-Kucha, I met a great guy from Fivepoints Arthouse in San Francisco. He gave me a flyer for this event I definitely want to attend this Wednesday... A little bit of an artists' jam - come check it out with me!

Every Wednesday Fivepoints Arthouse opens its studio doors and hosts an evening of creativity. Join us in making your art in a social environment. Bring your drawing, writing, painting, sewing, collage and even get connected to our free wireless to do some computer work. Discuss, critique, and collaborate on ideas and artwork all in a unique, comfortable, social space. Some materials are provided. Artists are encouraged to bring their own materials and in-progress work as well as create new works. This event is open to all adult artists who might be excited about sharing their work process with others, as well as those in search of learning new tips and techniques from other professional, established artists.

Weems Collection

My friend, Michael Weems, opened his new gallery on Palm Canyon in Palm Springs this week. His gallery features his scuplture and tabletop design. His collection consists of metal pieces that have been reclaimed from a "desert metal graveyard". There is an interesting juxtapostion of the smooth powder-coated texture and rigidity of the metal as material and the organic forms it takes when mutulated and distressed. The pieces are powdered coated in brilliant hues like fire engine red and orange, as well as, shimmering metallics of silver, gold and bronze.

My favorite are the Osaka Platters (pictured above in white) and Pompeii Bowls of his works. The belt buckles are very cool too - they look as if your belt buckle was molten metal (pictured at top).

Check out the Michael Weems Collection website designed by Gigspot.
